The vice-chairman of Tata Motors, Ravi Kant, announced that the company was open to allowing other firms to manufacture up to 10,000 Nano units a year at their own production facilities. Kant said that the other companies could sell it under their own brand and could give it another name. Kant made this disclosure at an awards ceremony in India. Touted worldwide as the cheapest car, the Tata Nano has been wildly successful since it went on sale in India in July. Versions for other markets are set to follow within the next three years. Construction for a new assembly plant is ongoing. This plant will allow Tata to roll out up to 250,000 Nano units each year.
